While the front foyer with its
steep narrow steps has been preserved, a new formal stairway has been added in
the new foyer that once was the kitchen.
As you see in the the rooms were tired and
in much need of reinforcement and updating.
Inspiration came from restoration work completed in places like
Williamsburg, Virginia (note the slate surround for the fireplace in the
office).
Wherever possible we salvaged
the original materials as with the fine wood ceiling beams, paneling and
floorboards in the dinning room and office and the original bluestone
hearthstones in the first floor living room, dining room and office.
New girders were used to support ceilings in
places where past owners removed walls to enlarge rooms. Period details such as
dentil molding were added in the living room creating the perfect formal
parlor. The original massive wood burning cooking hearth now has a state of the
art kitchen to complement it.The original
keeping room now the dinning room has a butler pantry with all the amenities
necessary for formal entertaining.
